Discussion on PIKOM Industry Engagement Program

The National ICT Association Of Malaysia

Briefing on
PIE (PIKOM Industry Engagement) Program
22 May 2014
10.00am to 12.00pm

Dear PIKOM Members,

As we all know, the ICT industry is facing a serious shortage of quality graduates. Nowadays, local COMPUTING fresh graduates are not able to meet with the employers’ expectations while the industry is short of talents especially in the area of Software Development. It is not about getting good graduates, but acquiring the right set of knowledge and skills, cognizant of the latest technology and most importantly have passion to solve new problems.

PIKOM has a number of ongoing engagements with the Ministry of Education, public and private universities. One of the main activities has been a pilot initiative with Help University in 2012 which the industry, through PIKOM, engaged actively with the students via internship programme and final year projects. The students were employed by the respective industry partners upon graduation. The companies involved continue to play an advisory role to Help University to assist in closing the expectation gap between the industry and fresh graduates.

It is time to open up this prestigious opportunity to all Universities and Industry members via the PIE program to help address the talent issue. While PIE is still in its early stage of execution, we believe that this program would help to address the gap through bridging the expectations of the academic and industry.
